Non-Executive Directorship

A Non-Executive Director (NED) might not be a role you have thought about needing in your business.

And maybe you might not be sure how a NED could help your business.

Let us explain.

What is a NED?

Typically the role is for 2 days per month and it is purposely intended to be used to take a “helicopter view” rather than be involved in the day to day operations that other Board members will be involved in. It helps to bring in some fresh eyes and helps push the success and strategy of the business further.

Generally NED roles assist businesses in the following:

  • Asking Questions

  • Listening

  • Advising (in a particular area or general commercial sense)

  • Interpreting and assisting with board dynamics

  • Improving or facilitating decision making

  • Challenging areas of concern

  • Engaging in a particular strategic project – for example, reviewing and improving sales; researching international markets; improving commercial processes and ensuring legal compliance throughout the business .
